With little outdoor practice time and no games or scrimmages thus far, the girls faced a formidable task as they traveled to Purcellville to take on the defending State Champions from Woodgrove in the opening game of the 2013 season. The girls played hard and kept the game close early, down by a score of 1-0 with 5 minutes remaining in the first half. The Wolverines struck with 2 lightning fast goals in the final minutes of the half to take a 3-0 halftime lead. To their credit the Falcons continued to battle for the full 80 minutes. They conceded two more goals in the second half for a final score of 5-0 in favor of the Wolverines. The defense was strong in spite of the absence of senior center back Rachel Jones due to illness, and goalkeeper Caroline Leibel had an outstanding game recording 22 saves.
