Girls Win at Home vs. District Rival Kettle Run

Game Date
May 14, 2013
Score
FALCONS: 2
KETTLE RUN: 1

In a highly competitive match the girls prevailed with a goal in the waning minutes.  The girls struck early in the game when striker Hailey Miller dribbled down the middle and took a shot that deflected off of the Kettle Run goalkeeper.  The ball rolled out to the right of the keeper and winger Megan Enos placed the rebound in the back of the net giving the girls a 1-0 lead just over 4 minutes into the game.  Both teams had quality scoring chances as the first half progressed, but it was the Cougars that got the equalizing goal with about 10 minutes remaining in the first half.  A ball was played back to center midfielder Ivanna Szwejkowski who turned and hit an brilliant strike from 35 yards out to even the game at 1-1.  It was by far the most amazing goal scored against the girls this season, and a tribute to the quality of one the great center midfielders for the Cougars.

The second half was an intense battle with both team playing highly competitive soccer, both very much wanting to record the win against district rivals.  Ultimately the girls prevailed when center midfielder Mia Barreda played a brilliant cross field pass to striker Caity Ashley who collected the ball behind a tough Cougars back line and slotted the ball past the Cougar's goalkeeper with 3:05 remaining in the match.  In a game that could have gone either way the girls battled for the full 80 minutes and were able to find a way to win against a very strong district rival.
