KING GEORGE: 1
The girls had to endure a 2 hour and 10 minute bus ride and then find the energy to take on a very strong King George team. The game was very even in the first half, with the Falcons having a slight edge in corner kicks and quality scoring chances. The game took on a different tone in the second half with the Foxes pressing and getting some great scoring chances. That said the girls took the lead 19 minutes half when Megan Enos won a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. She cleverly set the ball and took the free kick before the Foxes had a chance to organize defensively. She passed the ball to Cassidy Wagoner, Cassidy went around a defender and passed the ball back to Megan who scored from about 10 yards out. After the goal the pressure from the Foxes was relentless. It seemed apparent that they would score, and they broke through with 6 minutes remaining in the half. They won a free kick about 25 yards from goal. The free kick was brilliantly taken, winding up in the upper corner to the right of goalkeeper Caroline Liebel who had no chance to make the save. At that point it looked like the game would end in a tie or the Foxes would find the game winner. Instead right winger Katie Biegert made a determined run down the line ultimately winning a throw in. She threw the ball in to Megan Enos, who quickly turned and passed the ball into the 18 yard box to striker Eme Boucher. Eme took a couple of touches to the left, then put a shot past the Foxes goalkeeper from about 12 yards out for the game winning goal with just 3:33 remaining in the second half giving the Falcons a hard fought road win against a very determined and strong King George squad.
