The girls will be playing their Pink game on May second for cancer awareness and to raise money for the American Cancer Society. They will be decked out in pink jerseys for the game. We will be raising money with a bake sale, and also accepting donations at the gate. Each of the girls has made a poster to decorate the stadium and will be playing in honor of or in memory of a victim of cancer. Please come out and support the girls in one of their last home games of the season, and more importantly support the cause that the girls are playing for of curing cancer.

Our second fundraising car wash at Blue Ridge Orthopedic & Spine Center is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, from 10:00 to 3:00. Our first car wash on March 25 was an amazing success! While our goal is not to reach such a lofty fundraising total with our second car wash, we do need to raise enough money to cover our expenses for this season and go into the 2018 season with a healthy balance in our Booster Club account. Some of the remaining expenses that we need to cover for this season include Pink game decorations, our field rental balance at the Athey Field Complex and catering for our 2017 Soccer Awards Banquet. Keep your fingers crossed for great weather and a lot of dirty cars and trucks pulling in off of Shirley Avenue on April 29! All volunteers welcome!!

We had 27 girls from our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams volunteer to help host the annual WARF Open House. The girls were stationed throughout the WARF, from the welcome table to the party rooms on the lower level, and did a great job of answering questions and interacting with the 800 plus visitors that came through the doors between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Because we had so many volunteers, the girls were able to rotate to different stations during the day and really had an enjoyable time. The staff at the WARF were very grateful to have so many smiling faces helping to host the event, and as coaches we were very pleased that so many of our players came out in support of this great community service project. We really have an awesome group of girls on both of our teams!

The team had its first team dinner on March 30 in the old cafeteria. It was taco night, which was a huge hit. We had a great meal, hosted by the Sophomore and Junior parents; we celebrated Caroline's birthday; and, we had an energetic and ruthless game of balloon tag! Other team dinners are scheduled for April 27, May 4 and May 11.

Our fundraising car wash at Blue Ridge Orthopedic on Saturday was a HUGE success. The girls from both the junior varsity and varsity teams worked together to raise an incredible $1,292.21! It was a beautiful day for a car wash, which really helped bring in a lot of customers off of Shirley Avenue. The girls worked hard, sometimes washing four cars at once while two or three cars were waiting for their turn. Blue Ridge Orthopedic was a wonderful host, opening up their building and parking lot to us and providing an amazing lunch of subs, chips and cookies for our volunteers. We worked hard, but we also had a lot of fun and raised a huge amount of money for our FHS Booster Club account. Thank you to everyone that volunteered; to everyone that stopped by to support our teams; and to Blue Ridge Orthopedic for their awesome support of our FHS girls soccer teams!

Our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams will be volunteering on Saturday, April 1, to host the WARF Open House. The event is from 10::00 AM to 2:00 PM. We will arrive at 9:30 for a team picture and to get our assignments. The girls may be able to leave as early as 1:30, but should plan to stay until 2:00. The WARF has been very supportive of our girls soccer program over the years, and this a way for us to return the favor and say thank you! This is a great community service opportunity, and we are hoping to provide a large number of volunteers to assist the WARF staff.

We are planning to have two fundraising car washes this Spring at Blue Ridge Orthopedic & Spine Center. The dates are Saturday, March 25 and Saturday, April 29. The car washes will be from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. In the event that we have to postpone due to bad weather, the back up dates are Saturday, May 13 and Saturday, May 20. The car washes are by far our most successful fundraisers each year, and Blue Ridge Orthopedic has been very generous in supporting our girls soccer teams. We are counting on the girls to volunteer in big numbers to make these car washes a success, and please spread the word to friends and neighbors to come by for a car wash to support our teams!

A Virginia High School League (VHSL) sports physical form for the 2016-2017 school year must be on file with the school's athletic trainer, Bryan Grimley, before an athlete can participate in tryouts. With tryouts just two weeks away, now is the time to address this issue. Any athlete that has not competed in high school sports this school year will need to have a sports physical examination by a local doctor or clinic. There is a four page form that must be filled out by the examining physician/practitioner, a parent and the athlete. The forms can be obtained from Bryan, or can be printed from the VHSL website using the link http://www.vhsl.org/doc/upload/smac-ppe-20160404.pdf Most medical practices in Warrenton charge $25 for a VHSL sports physical examination. Please get this taken care of before tryouts, we want every student-athlete that is interested in playing girls soccer to be eligible to participate!

We will be having our final Spirit Day of the 2017 preseason at Chick-fil-A on Thursday, December 19. Visit the Warrenton restaurant any time on December 19, mention you are there for FHS girls soccer, and our teams will get 20% of the price of the order! We are hoping for a great turnout, and hoping that this will be our biggest fundraiser of the year so far. Please spread the word, we have a lot of exciting plans for the upcoming season but we need to raise the money to make them happen! Hope that you will stop by Chick-fil-A on Thursday for breakfast, lunch or dinner and support FHS girls soccer!

We will be having weekly yoga sessions beginning in January and continuing through the end of the season. Preseason sessions will be more rigorous with an emphasis on core strengthening and balance. Once the season begins the sessions will be restorative, providing the girls with an opportunity to physically and mentally recover in between games. The schedule that was previously posted is good through the middle of March. Once we begin the regular season we will likely be switching the yoga sessions to Thursdays. A revised schedule will be posted once we have our regular season schedule. The yoga sessions will be in the cafeteria. The girls will need to bring their own yoga mat. Yoga mats are not expensive and can be purchased Walmart, Marshall's, Olympia and many other places in and around Warrenton. The yoga sessions will help the girls physically and mentally throughout the season, and will be a great addition to our preseason and in season training programs.
