Our 2019 Girls Soccer Awards Banquet was held on Monday, May 20 at the John Barton Payne Building in old town Warrenton. We had a fantastic turnout, and we had a great time honoring our 41 girls soccer players and our managers. Daris Carter did a fantastic job of catering our barbeque main dishes, and parents contributed a number of fantastic side dishes and desserts. Leslie Farris, owner of Effee's, contributed some fantastic ice cream cakes that were gone in no time! We also had volunteers that donated drinks, plates and utensils and who helped set up before the event and clean up after the event. It was a fun evening and coach Elizabeth, coach Caroline and I had the privilege of honoring both of our amazing teams and the many volunteers that helped to make this season such an enjoyable experience for our girls. After such a fantastic season ending event I am already looking forward to next Spring! Thank you for your amazing support of our teams this spring, we couldn't have done it without your help and involvement!

We were finally able to have our annual girls soccer car wash on Saturday, May 18. We had a great number of volunteers for our first two shifts, but were just halfway to our $800 goal by midday. We were battling competition from two Kettle Run car washes in town that day (they should have their car washes in Nokesville, Warrenton is FHS territory!), plus the Warrenton Spring Festival. With an hour to go we were still $160 short of our goal. Kate, Lily and Shannon, who had worked the entire car wash, and Mary Grace, Rachael and Marissa stayed on to help in the final hour. Kate and Lily waved signs and the rest of us washed cars - and raised an incredible $200 in that final hour. We ultimately beat our goal, raising $860! We even had to turn away an awesome patriotic pick-up truck as we were cleaning up, but we were exhausted. It was an incredibly successful fundraising event to cap off an amazing season by our girls soccer teams!

After a one week delay we were finally able to have our "orange" night on Friday, May 10 when we hosted James Wood High School. Our goal was to raise money to fight multiple sclerosis, but also to raise awareness about this disease; to help in the research for a cure for MS; and ultimately to find a cure for the disease. We had heavy rains before the game, and our activity directors and athletic trainers worked tirelessly to get standing water off the field with a pump and snow shovels. Unfortunately the junior varsity game had to be canceled, but we were able to play the varsity game. We were able to raise additional money during the game, to supplement the money that the girls raised from our raffle ticket sales for our gift certificate for a round of golf for four, including greens fees and cart fees, at Stonewall Gof Club. At the end of the night we raised $1,331.24 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, with the girls crushing their original goal of $500. It's not just about soccer and wins and losses - our girls care about making an impact for very important causes, and this year it was all about fighting MS. We give a HUGE thank you to Samantha Bishop and the Stonewall Golf Club for donating the round of golf for four that we used for our raffle tickets for this fundraiser, and thank our guests from James Wood for cooperating with our uniform colors for this game. The field was sloppy, but at the end of the day our junior varsity and varsity teams raised over $1,300 to fight MS!!

Our Senior Night was on Tuesday, May 7 when we hosted John Handley High School. We honored the 7 senior members of our team - Abby Wells, Ashby Nye, Carmen Canino, Kaitlyn Lonsinger, Marissa Kunkel, Sofie Marino, and Tarah Markell - in a special ceremony prior to the game. There was a processional through the junior varsity and varsity teams, and then each senior joined their escorts at midfield. Their escorts walked with them to the home side touchline, and they were announced along with their escorts and plans following graduation. Tiaras and flowers were presented to each senior, along with hugs from the coaches. It was a great evening honoring our seniors, and our guests from John Handley were very patient and considerate. We wish all of our seniors the very best as they move on to the next phase of their lives, and a huge thank you to Sherry Hayes for organizing such a wonderful senior night ceremony!

The girls varsity and junior varsity teams got together for a friendly scrimmage on May 9, followed by a combined team dinner catered by Chick-fil-a! The scrimmage was very competitive, with the varsity team taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alexia Uribe in the middle of the first half. The junior varsity team equalized the score late in the first half with a goal scored by Danica Carter from a great cross by Kaylee Shuler. The game was very competitive, with the score tied a 1-1 gong into the last 5 minutes. A late goal by Kelsie Emmer from the left hand side gave the varsity team a 2-1 advantage. A goal in the final minutes sealed the deal for the varsity team. Without a doubt the junior varsity team was extremely competitive, and late in the game had chances to score the game winner. The varsity team prevailed in the end, but it was a very fun afternoon for both teams. The food from Chick-fil-a topped off a great afternoon!

Our annual spring car wash at Blue Ridge Orthopedic and Spine Center has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 4. Our back-up date is Saturday, May 11. This is always our biggest fundraiser of the year so it is an "all hands on deck" event. During the busiest times of the day we are typically washing four cars at a time with a couple of cars waiting in line. We need full participation from our teams, and we welcome any help that we can get from friends and family members. The car wash is from 9:30 to 3:00, and we will be asking the girls to volunteer for one of three time slots. If they are able to cover more than one time slot that we be great, we will need all the help that we can get! Blue Ridge Orthopedic is an amazing supporter of our teams, and they are wonderful hosts for our car wash. They provide an amazing location on Shirley Avenue that gives us high visibility and the ability to wash multiple cars at one time; they provide a terrific lunch for the girls; and they open the building for us for lunch and restrooms. Spread the word and make us work hard washing cars and trucks on May 4!

In recent years we have had a "Pink" to raise awareness about all forms of cancer and to raise money to fight this deadly disease. This year we are switching it up and having an "Orange" game to raise money to help fight and eventually find a cure for multiple sclerosis. In addition to collecting donations at the gate, the girls will be coming up with other ways to raise money in the coming weeks - we have never set a goal for these fund raising events, but this year we are setting a very ambitious goal of $500. The "Orange" game will be on May 2 when we host James Wood HS. Please spread the word and help us achieve our goal! The girls will be playing in orange jerseys and sock in honor of this event. Your support and donations for this very important cause will be greatly appreciated!!

We had an amazing group of 30 players volunteering at the WARF Open House on Saturday, March 30. The girls did a truly amazing job. They helped at the welcome table, the aquatics table, Parks and Recreation, refreshments, face painting, the Fauquier Times, Crescendo Music, China restaurant, Papa John's and numerous stations throughout the WARF. The girls were smiling, polite, friendly and engaging with the patrons of the Open House and the WARF staff, and they represented our team and our school in an exemplary way. They showed great character, and not only a willingness, but an eagerness to serve their community. While the girls were busy assisting attendees by providing information and answering questions, there were plenty of fun moments as well. They had an especially fun "pound" workout session at the end of the day, pictures will be posted on our Shutterfly web pages. It was a great day, and we are super proud of the girls for a job very well done.

Our first team dinner will be on Thursday, April 5 from 4:45 - 5:45 in the old cafeteria. The first team dinner will be hosted by parents of our freshman and senior parents. The following are the dates for our 2019 team dinners -
- 3-21-19
- 3-28-19
- 4-4-18
- 4-25-18
- 5-1-18
Rebekah Ordonez and Samantha Bishop will be coordinating the team dinners and will need help with menu items, drinks, plates and utensils, set up and clean up. Based on our roster, we will need freshmen and sophomore parents alternating with junior and senior parents for providing menu items, set up and clean up. We will ask for help from everyone for the last team dinner. We will also have at least one combined team dinner with the Junior Varsity team. Please look for emails from Rebekah and please sign up to help. These are great team building events for the girls!

We are planning to have our annual fundraising car wash this Spring at Blue Ridge Orthopedic & Spine Center. The date is Saturday, April 6. The car wash will be from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. In the event that we have to postpone due to bad weather, the back up dates are Saturday, May 4 (not ideal, Gold Cup races) and Saturday, May 11. The car washes are by far our most successful fundraiser each year, and Blue Ridge Orthopedic has been very generous in supporting our girls soccer teams. We are counting on the girls to volunteer in big numbers to make the car wash a success, and please spread the word to friends and neighbors to come by for a car wash to support our teams!

Our teams are participating in a fundraiser with the boys soccer teams on Sunday morning, March 10 from 8:00 to 10:00 at the Applebee's in Warrenton. The girls will be selling tickets for a flapjack breakfast for $10 per person. The boys and girls soccer teams will receive $5.50 for every ticket sold! The girls will be serving breakfast to the attendees along with coach Elizabeth and coach Caroline. There is also a competition between the boys teams and the girls teams to see who can sell the most tickets! The girls need to sell some tickets over the next few days, we can't lose to the boys! See the attached flyer for details. Checks for the tickets need to be made payable to the FHS Booster Club, with girls soccer in the memo line. The girls need to write their name on the back of each ticket that they sell.

Our 2019 Spirit wear shop is now open! A flyer with the available Sprit wear items is attached along with login information to place your order. The shop is closing on Thursday, March, 7, so please place orders soon. We can extend the order period, but we would really like to close the shop on March 7 in the hopes that the girls will receive their orders before our first regular season game on March 20. Consider ordering outerwear, our games in March and early April can be in really cold temps!

Team and individual pictures will be taken on Tuesday, March 5, in the old gym at 3:45. Order forms have been distributed to varsity and junior varsity players. The girls need to wear white uniforms. The photography company that the school uses is very professional and the pictures are very high quality, so please look over the order form and consider ordering a team picture and individual picture for your daughter. It will be a great memory from the 2019 season!

Meet the coaches night is scheduled for Wednesday, February 27, in the new gym at 7:00. There will be a presentation by Activities Director Mark Holmes followed by an introduction of all the spring athletics coaches. That will be followed by a girls soccer meeting with attending parents to go over rules, policies and plans for the upcoming season. We have a lot of information to share at the meeting, some of which is important for the safety of our athletes. We have two incredible teams this spring, we are very excited about the upcoming season, and we look forward to seeing you at meet the coaches night!

Gym space is now available on Tuesday and Wednesday; however, schools are likely to be closed Wednesday and possibly Thursday and Friday due to the predicted winter storm. The following are our tryout times and locations assuming that schools are open. Whatever the situation with school closings we will have a minimum of three days of tryouts, even if we have to extend tryouts to next week.
Monday, February 18 - Registration in gym lobby, 4:00-4:30. Tryouts in half of new gym, 4:30-6:30.
Tuesday, February 19 - Tryouts in the new gym, 3:00-4:30. Timed runs at the track, 4:30-5:00.
Wednesday, February 20 - Schools closed.
Thursday, February 21 - School closed.
Friday, February 22 - Tryouts in half of new gym, 3:00-4:30.
Monday, February 25 - Tryouts in the new gym, 4:30-6:00.
We are very excited about the upcoming season even though we may have to extend tryouts to next week! We are grateful for all the athletes that are trying out for girls soccer this spring!

The tryout schedule for Monday, February 18 will be the same as shown on the previous update. We will have registration in the gym lobby from 4:00 to 4:30, and tryouts will be in the new gym from 4:30 to 6:30.
Please note that after registration goalkeepers will be going outside to work with coach Josh from 4:30 to 5:30 tomorrow, then will meet us back in the new gym. Goalkeepers will need appropriate gear including cleats and gloves, then running shoes or indoor shoes for their return to the gym.
The girls need to bring cleats, running shoes, and indoor soccer shoes to all tryouts later this week. Running shoes and indoor shoes are need for tomorrow.

The schedule for tryouts this spring looks very challenging for a couple of reasons. First we are expecting significant snow on Saturday, February 16 and Tuesday, February 19 so it is likely that tryouts will be indoors with the exception of timed runs at the track. Secondly the Middle School CTE Academic Review Fair will be using both of our gyms on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 19 and 20. Right now this is the best case scenario -
Monday, February 18 - Registration in gym lobby, 4:00-4:30. Tryouts in half of new gym, 4:30-6:30.
Tuesday, February 19 - No tryouts.
Wednesday, February 20 - Timed runs at the track, 3:00-3:45. Tryouts in the new gym (if available) 3:45-5:00.
Thursday, February 21 - Tryouts in the new gym, 4:30-6:00.
Friday, February 22 - Tryouts in half of new gym, 3:00-4:30.
This schedule is subject to change on a day-to-day basis given the uncertainty of the weather forecast. Please check back this weekend and throughout the week next week for updates. We are excited that your daughter is considering playing girls soccer this spring and we will make it work during tryout week regardless of the difficult circumstances!

Girls soccer will be having tryouts on Monday, February 18 through Wednesday, February 20. Locations and times will depend on weather conditions. Please check back on the weekend of February 16-17 for final times and locations. We are planning to do timed runs on the track if weather permits, and the final tryout schedule will include shoes and gear that will be needed each day. If you want a positive and fun experience playing high school athletics we will deliver! We hope that you will choose to play soccer this spring and we hope to see you on February 18!!

Freshmen, Juniors and new athletes who have not taken the IMPACT concussion test and are planning to play girls soccer this spring will need to take an IMPACT Concussion test. Please tell your daughter that there are multiple days for them to take the IMPACT test prior to the start of the spring season; testing begins Wednesday, January 30 and there are multiple days available. Sign-up sheets are located outside of the Athletic Training Room. If your daughter needs to take the IMPACT test please encourage her to sign up as soon as possible. This will cut down on the need to miss practice to take the test once the season starts!

A Virginia High School League (VHSL) sports physical form for the 2017-2018 school year must be on file with the school's athletic trainer, Bryan Grimley, before an athlete can participate in tryouts. With tryouts just four weeks away, now is the time to address this issue. Any athlete that has not competed in high school sports this school year will need to have a sports physical examination by a local doctor or clinic. There is a four page form that must be filled out by the examining physician/practitioner, a parent and the athlete. The forms can be obtained from Bryan, or can be printed from the VHSL website using the link https://www.vhsl.org/vhsl-physical-form/? Most medical practices in Warrenton charge $35 for a VHSL sports physical examination. Please get this taken care of before tryouts, we want every student-athlete that is interested in playing girls soccer to be eligible to participate!

Our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams will be volunteering on Saturday, March 30, to host the WARF Open House. The event is from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We will arrive at 9:30 for a team picture and to get our assignments. The girls may be able to leave as early as 1:30, but should plan to stay until 2:00. The WARF has been very supportive of our girls soccer program over the years, and this a way for us to return the favor and say thank you! This is a great community service opportunity, and we are hoping to provide a large number of volunteers to assist the WARF staff.

The Fauquier High School Girls Varsity Soccer team was awarded the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic award for the 2018 season. The team was one of 389 boys and girls high school teams across the country to be honored with this award. The team earned the award by achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.67 for the 21 players on the 2018 roster. While not eligible for the award, the Junior Varsity squad of 19 players had a cumulative GPA of 3.46. Both teams showed a tremendous commitment to academics and truly embodied what it means to be student athletes. Congratulations to both teams for their academic success. Fauquier High School girls soccer coaches and players volunteered at the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center Bodies-in Motion Fun Run, 5k and 10k races on Sunday, November 4 at the Warrenton Aquatics and Recreation Facility (WARF). Many of the girls did double duty covering the race course for the fun run, then fanning out with the rest of us to cover the 5k and 10k race courses to keep runners on course and to provide lots of encouragement. We always agree to help with the Bodies-In-Motion races on a volunteer basis because of the great relationship that we have with the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center and the wonderful support that they have provided to our teams in recent years.
Even though we would be more than happy to help out on a volunteer basis, the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center has once again made a very generous donation to our teams for helping out at the races this fall - this time an incredible donation of $700 that was presented to us at beautiful awards ceremony at Alwington Manor on November 5! A huge thank you to the girls that were able to help out at the races, and a huge thank you to the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center for being such great supporters of our teams and for such an unbelievably generous donation!

Fauquier High School girls soccer will be volunteering at the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center Bodies-in-Motion 5k and 10k races on Sunday, November 4 at the Warrenton Aquatics and Recreation Facility (WARF). This is a make-up date. The race was originally scheduled for September 16, but had to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Florence. Volunteers should meet at the entrance to the WARF at 7:30 AM. We will be going out to the race course at 7:45 to guide runners on the fun run, and at 8:30 to guide runners on the 5k and 10k race courses. Volunteers working the 10k race course should be done by 9:30 AM. Blue Ridge Orthopaedic has helped our girls soccer program raise thousands of dollars by hosting hugely successful car washes (in 2017 they hosted two!) at their great location on West Shirley Avenue. Each car wash raises between $800 and $1,300 for our teams, plus they provide the girls and the coaches with a wonderful catered lunch each time they host our car washes. We gladly volunteer to help them out with the Bodies-in Motion races, and if you are available to help out on Sunday, November 4 please text coach Rick at 540-222-3941. Hope to see you at the races!

Preseason training sessions will be after school from 3:00 - 4:45. Training sessions will be inside or outside on Tuesdays and Thursdays depending on weather and field conditions. The girls should bring cleats and running shoes on those days and bring cold weather training clothes for the days that we are able to train outside. We will also be training in the weight room on Tuesdays and Thursdays so they will need to have clothing and footwear for both indoor and outdoor training on those days. We will let them know a day in advance whether we will be inside or outside, but they should be prepared for both due to the unpredictable nature of our winter weather. Any questions can be emailed to coach Rick at raccashley@msn.com or texted to 540-222-3941. I look forward to seeing you in January!!
