Preseason training sessions will be after school from 3:00 - 4:45. Training sessions will be inside or outside on Tuesdays and Thursdays depending on weather and field conditions. The girls should bring cleats and running shoes on those days and bring cold weather training clothes for the days that we are able to train outside. We will also be training in the weight room on Tuesdays and Thursdays so they will need to have clothing and footwear for both indoor and outdoor training on those days. We will let them know a day in advance whether we will be inside or outside, but they should be prepared for both due to the unpredictable nature of our winter weather. Any questions can be emailed to coach Rick at raccashley@msn.com or texted to 540-222-3941. I look forward to seeing you in January!!

Fauquier High School girls soccer will be volunteering at the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center Bodies-in-Motion 5k and 10k races on Sunday, November 4 at the Warrenton Aquatics and Recreation Facility (WARF). This is a make-up date. The race was originally scheduled for September 16, but had to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Florence. Volunteers should meet at the entrance to the WARF at 7:30 AM. We will be going out to the race course at 7:45 to guide runners on the fun run, and at 8:30 to guide runners on the 5k and 10k race courses. Volunteers working the 10k race course should be done by 9:30 AM. Blue Ridge Orthopaedic has helped our girls soccer program raise thousands of dollars by hosting hugely successful car washes (in 2017 they hosted two!) at their great location on West Shirley Avenue. Each car wash raises between $800 and $1,300 for our teams, plus they provide the girls and the coaches with a wonderful catered lunch each time they host our car washes. We gladly volunteer to help them out with the Bodies-in Motion races, and if you are available to help out on Sunday, November 4 please text coach Rick at 540-222-3941. Hope to see you at the races!

Fauquier High School girls soccer will be having a preseason meeting on Friday, September 7 from 2:45 to 3:15 in the old cafeteria for anyone that is interested in playing on our girls soccer teams this Spring. We will discuss our program philosophy, our preseason program and schedule, and volunteer and team building opportunities. We greatly appreciate your interest in Fauquier High School girls soccer and would love the opportunity to talk with you about our program and how excited we are about the 2019 Spring season! If you are interested in playing soccer this coming Spring but are not able to attend the meeting please email coach Ashley at raccashley@msn.com to get a meeting outline and a preseason schedule. We look forward to seeing you on September 7!

We had an incredible turnout on Monday, May 21 at the John Barton Payne building for our Fauquier High School Girls Soccer Awards Banquet. 38 out of our 40 varsity and junior varsity players were able to attend (Kami had to miss - her dad scored tickets to the Caps game 6 playoff game - totally understandable!) along with many family members. Capacity for the building is 100, and we probably had 90-95 in attendance, if not more. It was a packed house! We had a great dinner of barbeque from Red-Hot-and-Blue, with great side dishes and desserts provided family members from our teams. We had an opportunity to honor our Junior Varsity team, that finished with a terrific 8-3-2 record, and our Varsity team that finished with a 2-13 record and a last place finish in the Northwestern District. While both teams had differing levels of success in competition, both teams showed amazing potential for the future and continued to show the great character and success in the classroom that defines FHS girls soccer. It was a wonderful evening for parents and players, and a great opportunity to honor our phenomenal student athletes.

Our final team dinner of the 2018 season took place on Monday, May 14, our "Cookout in the Courtyard!" The food was amazing - hamburgers, hotdogs, great side dishes and desserts, including "whoopie pies!" After a great team dinner, we concluded the afternoon with an epic water balloon fight. The girls were ruthless - Tarah took a water balloon to her left eye only seconds into the battle. Carmen stole the opponents ammunition while the battle was still raging. In the end, opponents from both teams were firing at each other from point blank range. It was ruthless, but it was also a lot of fun - very wet, but very fun!

On May 11, after playing 3 games in 4 days, the girls set out in four teams on our annual scavenger hunt. The pictures that they returned with were amazing, even scary - I am totally surprised that they didn't get kicked out of Walmart! That said, it was a very fun day and an opportunity to recover from a tough week. While the scores were very close, team Caroline emerged as the winners by one point!

Our Senior Night will be on Tuesday, May 15 when we host James Wood High School. We will honor the 6 Senior members of our team - Olivia Chirasello, Caroline Diehl, Heather Buckley, Beth Larkin, Grace Blanchette, and Mykala Dittmar - in a special ceremony prior to the game. There will be a processional and each player will be announced with their escorts and their plans following graduation. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early as we honor our Seniors for their terrific contributions to our Fauquier High School girls soccer program and their amazing success as students, volunteers and leaders at Fauquier High School!

Our "Pink" game for 2018 is scheduled for Thursday, May 10 when we host John Handley High School. The girls will be wearing pink jerseys, and the goal of this game is to raise awareness about all forms of cancer and to raise money to fight this deadly disease. In addition to collecting donations at the gate, the girls will be selling pink ribbons for a donation of $1 that will be placed on a banner on the fence at Falcon Field. The girls will be playing in honor of or memory of anyone that they know that has battled the deadly disease of cancer, or they will be playing in honor of the cause of fighting this deadly disease. Having lost my father to pancreatic cancer in 2009 (the purple ribbon is for my dad), I will be coaching in memory of Bill Ashley. Your support and donations for this very important cause will be greatly appreciated.

On Monday, April 23 the varsity team enjoyed a chance to recover from 2 grueling weeks by having a "partner" yoga practice with Ashley and Meghan from Fauquier Health. The girls had a blast (see the pictures on our team Shutterfly website) and it was a very restorative and relaxing practice for the team. It was a much needed change of pace for the team, and something that they will remember long after the season is over. Ashley has taken over for Denise, who moved out of the area earlier this Spring, and is doing a fantastic job leading our team yoga practices. The Monday yoga practices are a day that we all look forward to this season!

Our girls soccer fundraising car wash at Blue Ridge Orthopedic on Saturday was a HUGE success! We raised $1,150 for our girls soccer teams. The weather could not have been better, especially considering the cold and windy weather that we have had so far this Spring. It was a warm and sunny day, and even though the car wash didn't officially start until 9:30, we washed our first car at 9:15. Aside from two very short lulls, we were constantly busy from 9:15 to 3:10 - we had one arrival after 3:00, but the girls got the job done! We exceeded our fundraising goal by $150 and our varsity and junior varsity players had a blast. Once again Blue Ridge Orthopedic was a wonderful host, and provided a great lunch of Subway subs and chips. Thank you to all of you that supported this fundraiser, and a huge thank you to all of our girls that volunteered!

Our 2018 fundraising car wash will be this Saturday, April 14, from 9:30-3:00 at Blue Ridge Orthopedic and Spine Center. The high temperature is expected to be around 80 degrees, a dramatic change from this past weekend and the early part of this week. This is our only fundraising event this Spring, and we count on raising $1,000 to replenish our Booster Club account. It is a very busy day, and we count on maximum participation from the girls on bot of our teams to make this success. The girls can sign up for one or more of the 3 available shifts, and we need maximum numbers for all 3 shifts. Lunch will be provided, and this is always a really fun event for our girls. Please spread the word, we are counting on a great turnout!

We are planning to have our annual fundraising car wash this Spring at Blue Ridge Orthopedic & Spine Center. The date is Saturday, April 7. The car wash will be from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. In the event that we have to postpone due to bad weather, the back up dates are Saturday, April 14 and Saturday, April 21. The car washes are by far our most successful fundraiser each year, and Blue Ridge Orthopedic has been very generous in supporting our girls soccer teams. We are counting on the girls to volunteer in big numbers to make the car wash a success, and please spread the word to friends and neighbors to come by for a car wash to support our teams!

Our first team dinner will be on Thursday, April 5 from 4:45 - 5:45 in the old cafeteria. The first team dinner will be hosted by parents of our freshman and senior parents. The following are the dates for our 2018 team dinners -
- 4-5-18
- 4-11-18
- 4-19-18
- 4-26-18
- 5-14-18
Caitlin Chirasello will be coordinating the team dinners and will need help with menu items, drinks, plates and utensils, set up and clean up. Based on our roster, we will need freshmen and senior parents alternating with sophomore and junior parents for providing menu items, set up and clean up. We will ask for help from everyone for the last team dinner. We will also have at least one combined team dinner with the Junior Varsity team. Please look for emails from Caitlin after Spring Break and please sign up to help. These are great team building events for the girls!

Team pictures are on Monday, April 2, at 5:05 in the new gym. This is the day that the girls return to school after Spring Break. The plan is to practice from 3:00-4:30, then give the girls time to change into their uniforms. We will wear white uniforms. I sent order forms home with the girls, but if you need an order form please email me at raccashley@msn.com.

We had 24 players and three coaches volunteering at the WARF Open House on St. Patrick's Day. The girls did a truly amazing job. They helped at the welcome table, membership information, aquatics, Parks and Recreation, refreshments, face painting, bean bag toss, and numerous vendor tables throughout the WARF. The girls were smiling, friendly and engaging with the patrons of the Open House and the WARF staff, and they represented our team and our school in an exemplary way. They showed great character, and not only a willingness, but an eagerness to serve their community. While the girls were busy assisting attendees by providing information and answering questions, there were plenty of fun moments as well. It was a great day, and we are super proud of the girls for a job very well done.

Our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams will be volunteering on Saturday, March 17, to host the WARF Open House. The event is from 10::00 AM to 2:00 PM. We will arrive at 9:30 for a team picture and to get our assignments. The girls may be able to leave as early as 1:30, but should plan to stay until 2:00. The WARF has been very supportive of our girls soccer program over the years, and this a way for us to return the favor and say thank you! This is a great community service opportunity, and we are hoping to provide a large number of volunteers to assist the WARF staff.

Freshmen, Juniors and new athletes playing girls soccer will need to take an IMPACT Concussion test. Please tell your daughter that there are multiple days for them to take the IMPACT test prior to the start of the spring season; testing begins Wednesday, January 31 and there are multiple days available. Sign-up sheets are located outside of the Athletic Training Room. If your daughter needs to take the IMPACT test please encourage her to sign up as soon as possible. This will cut-down on the need to miss practice to take the test once the season starts!

A Virginia High School League (VHSL) sports physical form for the 2017-2018 school year must be on file with the school's athletic trainer, Bryan Grimley, before an athlete can participate in tryouts. With tryouts just four weeks away, now is the time to address this issue. Any athlete that has not competed in high school sports this school year will need to have a sports physical examination by a local doctor or clinic. There is a four page form that must be filled out by the examining physician/practitioner, a parent and the athlete. The forms can be obtained from Bryan, or can be printed from the VHSL website using the link https://www.vhsl.org/vhsl-physical-form/? Most medical practices in Warrenton charge $25 for a VHSL sports physical examination. Please get this taken care of before tryouts, we want every student-athlete that is interested in playing girls soccer to be eligible to participate!

Girls soccer will be having tryouts on Monday, February 19 through Thursday, February 22. Locations and times will depend on weather conditions. Please check back on the weekend of February 17-18 for final times and locations. We are planning to do timed runs on the track if weather permits, and the final tryout schedule will include shoes and gear that will be needed each day. If you want a positive and fun experience playing high school athletics we will deliver! We hope that you will choose to play soccer this spring and we hope to see you on February 19!!

The Fauquier High School Girls Varsity Soccer team was awarded the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic award for the 2017 season. The team was one of 389 boys and girls high school teams across the country to be honored with this award. The team earned the award by achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.60 for the 21 players on the 2017 roster. While not eligible for the award, the Junior Varsity squad of 17 players had a cumulative GPA of 3.46. Both teams showed a tremendous commitment to academics and truly embodied what it means to be student athletes. Congratulations to both teams for their academic success. Fauquier High School girls soccer coaches and players volunteered at the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center Bodies-in Motion Fun Run, 5k and 10k races on Sunday, September 17 at the Warrenton Aquatics and Recreation Facility (WARF). Many of the girls did double duty covering the race course for the fun run, then fanning out with the rest of us to cover the 5k and 10k race courses to keep runners on course and to provide lots of encouragement. We always agree to help with the Bodies-In-Motion races on a volunteer basis because of the great relationship that we have with the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center and the wonderful support that they have provided to our teams in recent years.
Even though we would be more than happy to help out on a volunteer basis, the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center has once again made a very generous donation to our teams for helping out at the races this fall - this time an incredible donation of $500! A huge thank you to the girls that were able to help out at the races, and a huge thank you to the Blue Ridge Orthopaedic and Spine Center for being such great supporters of our teams and for such an unbelievably generous donation!
