Falcons Win: 2 - 0
The girls were able to pick up a win in the first of three away game this week against a fast and athletic Culpeper County High School team. In an evenly played first half, the Falcons scored the breakthrough goal 16 minutes into the first half when Sedona Bisek collected the ball at midfield and made a strong run down the left hand side. She cut inside and finished with a nice shot into the right hand corner of the net from 10 yards out. Forward Natalie Burns gave the Falcons a 2 goal cushion with just over 14 minutes remaining. Sedona played a ball to Natalie from midfield. Natalie was able to get to the ball just ahead of the Culpeper goalkeeper and a defender, touched the ball to the right around both players, and was able to win the race to tap the ball into the back of the net.
A combination back line of Tarah Markell, Claire Beaulieu, Kailey Vance, CatiAdele Slater, Kristina Davis, Cate Boulter and Victoria Kroencke did an outstanding job defensively while goalkeeper Kaylee Lamper had another solid performance in goal. Falcons Lose: 0 - 0
In a game in which both teams had some great scoring chances, both teams settled for a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes of competitive soccer. It was a game that was ultimately decided by great goalkeeping and great defending that somehow managed to keep some strong attackers from finding the back of the net. Kettle Run goalkeeper Nathalie Grier made a fantastic kick save to deny forward Sedona Bisek a goal on a break away opportunity. On the other end, forward Kettle Run forward Emily Yergin attacked a corner kick with a header that was clearly going into the goal, but was headed off the line by center back Claire Beaulieu just before crossing the line. There were other near misses by both teams, with Kettle Run applying more of the attacking pressure in the second half, but neither team could find the elusive game winning goal.

Falcons Lose: 1 - 2
The girls showed tremendous resolve and determination, but ultimately lost 2-1 when Brentsville scored two late second half goals. With 6 players unavailable for the game, the Falcons faced a difficult challenge with only 14 players available to face a strong, fast, and attack oriented Tigers squad. That number was down to 13 less than 10 minutes into the first half, and down to 12 by the last 5 minutes of the first half. Despite a thin roster, the girls managed to score the first goal with one minute remaining in the first half. Megan Dietrich passed the ball out to Madeleine Hayes on the left side, and Madeleine was fouled just outside the 18 yard box. Megan took the free kick, which ricocheted of the cross bar and fell into the path of onrushing Sedona Bisek, who cleanly struck the ball into the back of the net.
With only one substitute available for the second half, the Falcons were under constant pressure from the Tigers who were pressing to equalize. The girls played strong, resolute defense and were aided by some terrific saves from goalkeeper Kaylee Lamper. The game remained 1-0 until 11:53 left to play in the second half. The Tigers finally broke through on a corner kick that was driven low and hard and a Tigers player managed to squeeze the ball just past Kaylee at the near post. The game winning goal came in the final minute on another corner kick that was initially defended but the ball was won by a Brentsville player who buried the shot from about 12 yards out.
The first half back four of Kristina Davis, Olivia Chirasello, Kailey Vance and Rebekah Sullivan played superbly defensively. With Rebekah injured late in the first half, Erin Jones moved into the back line and that unit had a terrific second half as well. In the end the pressure from Brentsville was too much, but the girls were very competitive under difficult circumstances.

Falcons Win: 4 - 2
The girls opened the season with a 4-2 win against visiting Liberty. The game was tied 0-0 at halftime. The Falcons enjoyed an early advantage in possession and shots on goal, but the Eagles carved out a couple of great scoring opportunities in the waning minutes of the half. That turned out to be a foreshadowing of how the second half would begin. Just under 5 minutes into the half, the Eagles played a ball over the top to forward Hannah Panagos. Hannah won the ball, shrugged of defenders and beat goalkeeper Kaylee Lamper with a deft finish to the right side. The girls responded well, scoring less than two minutes later when midfielder Erin Jones played a ball through to forward Sedona Bisek, who won the ball just before Liberty goalkeeper Taylor Dodson could get there, and tapped the ball in to tie the game at 1-1. Sedona put the Falcons ahead midway through the half when she collected a ball in the middle of the field and fired a shot from 22 yards out that went just over the outstretched hands of Taylor. Just over a minute later, with 18:23 left to play in the half, Erin picked up the ball in the center of the field, dribbled to just inside the 18 yard box, and hit a nice bending shot into the right hand corner of the goal. The Eagles bounced right back, scoring with 17:16 remaining in the half when Hannah received a ball from the left side of the field, drove to her right, and hit a brilliant strike from about 25 yards that Kaylee had no chance of stopping. The next minutes were tense until Erin passed the ball out to Madeleine Hayes on the left side. Madeleine took the ball to her right into the 18-yard box, then curled a beautiful shot into the right hand side of the net for the game's final goal.
