Our annual spring car wash at Blue Ridge Orthopedic and Spine Center was a huge success!  The girls raised $903.80, well above our goal of $800.  With gray skies and cool weather the day got off to a very slow start.  We washed four cars in the first hour, and not many more in the second hour.  Volume really picked up around 11:15 when the sun broke out and drive by traffic started pouring in.  We were washing as many as four cars at a time from 11:15 until we shut down at 3:00.  The girls were determined to meet our goal, and we made almost $200 in the last hour.  We were shorthanded due to Gold Cup, college graduations, SATs and other scheduling issues, but the girls that were able to help out did an amazing job and we were able to exceed our goal for the day.  The fact that we were able to even have a car wash in a month when we have been besieged with constant rainfall is amazing, the timing could not have been better.  The fact that we were able to exceed our goal while shorthanded in volunteers is amazing as well.  A huge thank you to everyone that was able to help out, and a huge thank you to Blue Ridge Orthopedic and Spine Center for their terrific support of our girls soccer teams!

Our "Pink Game" is tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 6.  More details to follow, but please mark your calendars.  This will be an opportunity for the girls to play in honor of or in memory of someone they know that has been a victim of cancer, and it will be an opportunity for our teams to raise money for cancer research and treatment.  Look for final details over the next week or so.

The date for our fundraising car wash and Blue Ridge Orthopedic and Spine Center has been changed to Saturday, April 30, from 9:00-3:00.  This is the one fundraiser that we do each spring and it has been hugely successful in the past.  Thanks to donations from the WARF and from previous seasons we have all the supplies that we need - towels, sponges, buckets, brushes, car wash detergent, etc. - all we need is volunteers! We are asking girls from both junior varsity and varsity to sign up for one of three shifts - 9:00-11:00, 11:00-1:00, and 1:00-3:00.  This is really a fun day, and some of the girls have already signed up for three shifts!  Blue Ridge Orthopedic has always been a wonderful host for our car wash, and they even buy a massive amount of subs, chips, cookies and drinks for the girls from Subway (a major reason that the midday shift is so popular!).  Please spread the word to friends and neighbors to come by on April 30.  This single fundraiser covers all of our expenses for the spring season, so keep your fingers crossed for a bright sunny day and lots of customers!

Junior and Freshman parents will be asked to help out with menu items, supplies, and serving on Aril 7 and 21 and May 5.  Senior and Sophomore parents will be asked to help out with menu items, supplies and serving on April 14 and 28.  Menu items and other needs will be sent out in advance.  Please plan to volunteer and help out with these fun team building events!

The varsity team is scheduled to scrimmage at Highland on Wednesday, March 9 at 4:30.  We will wear red, players need to be at the bus ramp at 3:50.  The weather forecast looks fantastic, so please plan on coming out and supporting the team as they hit the field for the first time this spring for a preseason match with our cross town friends from Highland! After so much time in the gym they will be thrilled to be playing soccer where it is supposed to be played - outside on a soccer field!

Both teams will practice tomorrow from 3:00-4:30 in the new gym, followed by a joint meeting with both teams from 4:30-5:00.

Based on field conditions, the weather forecast, and gym availability the tryout schedule for girls soccer will be -

Monday:  Registration 4:00-4:30, gym lobby.  Tryouts, 4:30-6:00, New gym

Tuesday:  No gym availability

Wednesday: Tryouts, 3:00-4:30, Old gym

Thursday: Final tryout day, 4:30-6:00, New gym

Friday: First day of practice, 3:00-4:30, New gym

Any changes to the schedule will be included in both the morning and afternoon announcements and posted on the website.  There is almost no chance that we will get outside next week, but please have the girls bring cleats just in case!

Girls soccer tryouts will be held beginning Monday, February 22 and will go through Wednesday, February 24. Registration on February 22 will be in the gym lobby.  Tryouts will be held at our on campus practice field between the tennis courts and softball stadium.  Players should wear layers suitable to the weather conditions and have both cleats and indoor soccer shoes.  This schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions and the potential for school closures.  Please check back for an update the weekend before tryouts. Just two weeks and the spring season will be underway!

Happy New Year to our FHS girls soccer supporters!  Just a reminder that preseason conditioning will resume on January 6 at 3:00.  The Monday and Thursday sessions will include a 12 station weight room workout from 4:00-4:45.

Also, our preseason futsal program will be starting on Saturday, January 9 from 6:00-8:00 PM in the new gym.  Based on the number of girls that have expressed an interest in trying out this spring, we are hoping for really good turnouts for the futsal sessions.
